Kitahiroshima Town is located in the northwestern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, north of Hiroshima City, just like the name of the town implies. Shimane Prefecture is located to the north of the town, where over 1,000-meter-tall mountains stretch out. The whole town is located 300–800 meters above the sea level in a basin, with plenty of beautiful nature. One of the main tourist attractions skiing, which makes use of the heavy snowfalls that occur during winter. Kitahiroshima Town is not to be confused with “Kitahiroshima City”, which is located in Hokkaidō.

Arriving by train:
Approx. 4 hours from Tōkyō Station to Hiroshima Station by a Shinkansen train, and then approx. 1 hour from Hiroshima Station to Chiyoda Interchange by bus.

Geihoku Kokusai Ski Resort
There are plenty of courses on the wide ski slopes, and everyone from beginners to experienced people can enjoy their time. There is also a “Kid’s Park”, where small children can enjoy themselves, playing with snow and sledding.
Roadside Station Toyohira Donguri Mura
This road station not only sells souvenirs from Kitahiroshima Town, but also has restaurants, lodging, and even a hot spring. You can try making soba noodles, there is a park, and there is a Kagura (a type of Shinto theatretical dance) performance during a seasonal event. It is one of the main places in Kitahiroshima Town to enjoy your free time.

Mibu no Hana Taue
A traditional rice-planting ritual that has been performed in the western Japan since long time ago. Women, called Saotome, plant rice, being accompanied by drums and flutes are played in the background. The meaning of the ritual is to pray to gods for abundant harvest, while also showing appreciation to the people who work hard planting rice. The ritual is held on the first Sunday of June every year. On the day of the event the quiet town gets filled with excitement, as a lively group of people parade through the town.
