Approx. 3 hours and 45 min. from Tokyo Station to Akita Station by the Akita Shinkansen, then approx. 1 hour and 20 min. from Akita Station to Futatsui Station by train via Ou Main Line, and finally approx. 30 minutes from Futatsui Station to Fujisato Town by bus.

Shirakami-Sanchi

Shirakami-Sanchi is a mountain range that stretches out from Aomori Prefecture to the border of Akita Prefecture. It was registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in 1993, because it has the largest-scale native beech forest that has received little to no influence from humankind. You can easily experience the nature of Shirakami-Sanchi since there is a mountain that you can climb in 2–3 hours from Fujisato Town, there are promenades established at the walking paths, and there are even camping sites.

 

Garo Falls

A waterfall that stands 12 meters in height, with parks established in the vicinity. There is an around 600-meter-long promenade that can be walked in 20 minutes. You can stroll through a forest peacefully, while being soothed by the refreshing air. In winter, the water freezes close to the surface of the water. Every year in the middle of February the falls get illuminated, and you can enjoy a magical sight that has been illuminated in bluish-white color.

Underground water that has been cultivated by the beech forest of Shirakami-Sanchi. The water is collected without it ever contacting air and bottled without heating it. It is soft water with a hardness of 14 degrees. You may enjoy it as it is, and it will also make for delicious tea or coffee.

 

Ram and hogget

Suffolk sheep that is raised within the town. The sheep are raised with great care using special fodder, such as grass that has been nurtured by the beautiful nature, and rice from Akita Prefecture. Ram meat, which is healthy and has high quality proteins in it, is gaining popularity also in Japan.
