Akiota-cho town is located in northwestern Hiroshima prefecture, a beautiful town surrounded by great nature. The town is located on the headstream of Otagawa River offering the neighborhood clean water that grows good rice and vegetables. Akiota-cho town is the smallest town in the prefecture but there are great scenic spots such as national special scenic beauty Sandankyo Gorge, Ryuzukyo Gorge, Ininotanada (“Tanada” means terraced paddy field), Mt. Shinnyuzan and more.

Approximately a 1h 25mins flight from Haneda to Hiroshima Airport. It takes 45 mins from Hiroshima Airport to Hiroshima station by bullet train, then take the Airport Limousine bus for about 1h from Hiroshima station to Kake bus stop. 7 mins walk from Kake bus stop to Shimo Tsunami bus stop. 30 mins ride from Shimo Tsunami bus stop to Akiota-cho town hall bus stop.

Approximately 4h from Tokyo to Hiroshima Station by bullet train. It takes 45 mins from Hiroshima Airport to Hiroshima station. A must-see spot in Akiota-cho town
Sandankyo is 16km-long gorge that is located on the headstream of Otagawa River, and is designated as a national special scenic spot. Many tourists from all over the world visit the gorge to see the beautiful scenery which looks like Japanese traditional ink paintings, and is said to be an unexplored region. Trekking is one of the best ways to see the scenery but ferrying is popular too.

Ayu no Ichiyaboshi (Sweet fish dried overnight)
It is a local specialty of Sandankyo Gorge. You can also experience the making of it. It is as popular as the new type of local food called Tsukemono Yakisoba (pickles fried noodles.)
A must-buy souvenir in Akiota-cho town
It is chocolate made with Gionbo well known as premium persimmon and Akiota is the best producer of Gionbo in Japan. It is popular as a souvenir, although production volumes are not large, as the local elder women make them manually one by one.
